8-Week MINDFULNESS Course 
The 8-week MBSR course is offered in winter, spring and fall each year. This rigorous course requires a 30-45 minute daily commitment to mindfulness practice and inquiry. We begin with simple mindfulness practices of bringing a kind attention to our own body sensations and breath through the body scan practice. We expand our focus to include awareness during ordinary daily activities including moving, eating and interacting. Following brief audio-guided meditation instruction each day and doing what the course asks you to do, you will recognize a significant increase in your overall health and well-being. Practicing mindfulness on a regular basis brings ease and well-being to our own minds and bodies and contributes not only to your own happiness and ease but to that of others. 
This course is led by Diana Shimkus, LCSW and offered in North County Encinitas at the TREE OF LIFE BIRTH CENTER.

The FALL 2019 MBSR course orientation will be on Wed. Sept. 18 at 6:15 PM and course beginning on WEDNESDAY, Sept. 25 - Nov. 13, 2019 from 6:15 - 8: 45 PM.   Location of the fall course: TREE OF LIFE BIRTHING CENTER 617 N. Saxony Rd, Suite 104, Encinitas.

Weekly Meditations

Practice with a community is an essential support in developing and sustaining mindfulness. The Encinitas Mindfulness Community led by Diana is a group of practitioners with varied levels of experience who come together weekly to study, meditate and share their experiences. We meet Saturdays, 7:30 AM and Tuesdays at 7:00 AM at the Soul of Yoga, 627 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA.

ONLINE TEACHINGS: In addition, we will be starting an in-person/on-line curriculum on A SACRED JOURNEY, Cultivating Compassionate Presence in Living and Dying. The 16-week course will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 10th from 7:00-8:30 AM. Once you are registered as a ZOOM PARTICIPANT, you will be able to join the live stream or watch the video meditation and teachings at any time through the archived video that is available at everydaymind.com/joy.

The link to register is below under Tuesday Study Group. There is no charge for this offering. All teachings through EMC are offered through the practice of dana (generosity). Thursday evening sittings will be held on elected Thursdays of each month. THE NEXT THURSDAY SITTING IS SCHEDULED FOR
JUNE 13th in the outdoor meditation space at 816 Passiflora Avenue, Encinitas from 6:30-8:00 PM. This sitting group will continue throughout the year.

Parking is available on the street. Walk down the curved garden path on the left side of the house to the backyard meditation circle.
All are welcome to attend.  There is no charge for the teachings and practice. Dana or donation is always gratefully received. There will be a box, bell or container available near the meditation space for offerings. It is helpful to RSVP so that we can provide sufficient space and chairs for you. Mindfulness Education for Groups and Corporations - Invite Diana to introduce mindfulness to your organization or group. Diana will focus her presentation to your organizations unique resources, culture, challenges, and aspirations. Previously, Diana has spoken to scientists, teachers, care-givers, seniors, medical patients, coaches, hospice and palliative care workers, inter-faith consortiums, professional development conferences, corporate executives, attorneys, medical professionals, technology groups, educators, students and others.

Diana AND Guiding Sangha will be facilitating our fall course, COMPASSIONATE PRESENCE from the wisdom of Pema Chodron’s on-line course, A Sacred Journey and an elected text, which will be identified soon.

As always, practice is a path utilizing your own direct experience along with identified practices and deep inquiry into the qualities of heart/mind that contribute to the wisdom of impermanence and compassion.
We will be inquiring into the bardos of life, death through our own daily practice to come to see the parallels that exist within and between all moments, both life and death.

We will be investigating the importance of skillful means within the bardos of life in preparation and path towards equanimity in the face of all change, including death as an opportunity, rather than as a process to be feared, avoided and resisted.

These teachings will offer training in assessing our buddha-nature within the groundlessness of change,
and continual birth and death on the Sacred Journey towards awakening and freedom .

DANA OFFERING: The suggested donation for the 18-week study group offering is $5-10 per session based on your intention and resources.  You can contribute weekly or on a one-time basis.

FALL RETREAT
Oct. 14-19, 2019

THE SACRED JOURNEY:
COMPASSIONATE PRESENCE
IN LIVING AND DYING

This 4 or 6-day silent and guided retreat is designed to cultivate a deepened still and silent inquiry into mindfulness practice and teachings. Retreat will be held in NOBLE SILENCE of retreatants with guided practices offered by Diana and Guiding Sangha members from Wed - Saturday.

EMC is offering both residential and commuter options for this intensive practice period.

2019 Mindful All-Day Retreat

SATURDAY, Nov. 9, 2019

The growth and development of your mindfulness occurs through the continued deepening and sustaining of longer practice periods.  Sustaining practice for one or more days in extended practice periods shifts our attention and awareness inward to assist in accessing more continuous stillness and silence.  Retreat practice is time out from your daily responsibilities, allowing for a rich and beneficial opportunity for practice and its benefits.

November All-Day Retreat is held at Questhaven Retreat Center in San Marcos, CA. 

Mindfulness graduates and friends are welcome to attend from 9:00am – 4:00 pm (Half day options also available upon registration)
$35.00 for the full-day and $20 for the half-day is a requested donation to cover the cost of the space.  Dana or generosity offerings for the teachings and the teacher are gratefully accepted and always appreciated.  There will be a basket for such offerings at the retreat site on the day of the retreat or you can pay by selecting an option below.  Thank you always for your kindness and generosity!
