8 Week (MBSR) Course - This 8 week course, held 3 times each year in winter, spring and fall requires a 30-45 minute daily commitment to mindfulness practice and inquiry. We begin with simple mindfulness practices of bringing a kind attention to our own body sensations and breath through the body scan practice. We expand our focus to include awareness during ordinary daily activities including moving, eating and interacting. Following brief audio-guided meditation instruction each day and doing what the course asks you to do, you will recognize a significant increase in your overall health and well-being. Practicing mindfulness on a regular basis brings ease and well-being to our own minds and bodies and contributes not only to your own happiness and ease but to that of others. This course led by Diana Shimkus, LCSW is offered in North County Encinitas at the Soul of Yoga. The SPRING 2018 course will begin on Wednesday, APRIL 11 - JUNE  6 from 6:15-8:30 PM and POSSIBLY Fridays from 9:30-11:30 AM, APRIL 13 - JUNE 8.  The All-Day Retreat for these SPRING course will be on Saturday, JUNE  9, 2018 from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Weekly Meditations - Practice with a community is an essential support in developing and sustaining mindfulness. The Encinitas Mindfulness Community led by Diana is a group of practitioners with varied levels of experience who come together weekly to study, meditate and share their experiences. We meet Saturdays, 7:30 AM and Tuesdays at 7:00 AM. Our Thursday evening meetings will be held the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Soul of Yoga at 6:30-8:00 PM.  May through October we will add an additional 4th Thursday evening meditation outdoors in our backyard meditation circle at 816 Passiflora Avenue, Encinitas.  Parking is available on the street. All are welcome to attend.  There is no charge for the teachings and practice. Dana or donation is always graciously received.

Mindfulness Education for Groups and Corporations - Invite Diana to introduce mindfulness to your organization or group. Diana will focus her presentation to your organizations unique challenges, stressors, and concerns. Previously, Diana has
spoken to scientists, teachers, care-givers, seniors, medical patients, coaches, hospice and palliative care
workers, inter-faith consortiums, professional development conferences, corporate executives, attorneys, medical professionals, technology groups, educators, students and others.

MBSR SPRING COURSE ORIENTATION AND CLASS #1

This is the only orientation for the SPRING 8-week MBSR course for Wednesday evenings and POSSIBLY Friday mornings.  Please attend if you are interested in the spring series, as this is also the first class for the course.  No charge until after class #1.

 Please see the course description above.  This is an 8-week curriculum with 2 additional weeks of deepened inquiry and practice into the capacity of deep listening through awareness and compassion to open us to deeper, more intimate and more abiding connections within all relationships.  The suggested donation for this course is $5-10 per session.  PLEASE SEE THE ASPIRATION AND COMMITMENT STATEMENT BELOW FOR THE 2 WEEK INTENSIVE HERE

PRACTICE ASPIRATION STATEMENT

I, ______________________ set the aspiration and intention for formal practice of lovingkindness and compassion for at least _________minutes per day.

Each day, I will seek out and commit to daily gestures and expressions of kindness and compassionate action and recollect/log them as a caring action towards myself and others.  Recollecting our goodness and the goodness of others serves us all.

Examples of kind and compassionate action might include:

Deep listening, expanding the ocean of awareness to include another, opening to the difference/uniqueness of another without judgment, acts of forgiveness, acts of kindness, practicing wise speech, refraining from expressing harmful thought, speech, action; offering kindness and compassionate phrases and blessings to self/other, offering self-compassion as we recognize our humanness and vulnerability and beginning again, acknowledging our fear and pain and the falsely believed self-perpetuating storyline that limits the awakened heart/mind, knowing which role we are currently playing, etc.  These are just a few of the practices offered during our 8-week study.  There are many others to practice and discover.

SPRING RETREAT: MINDFUL RELATIONSHIP - INTIMACY, CONNECTION AND BELONGING.  

  APRIL 18 - 21, 2018

This 3-day guided retreat is designed to cultivate a deeper inquiry and practice into the reality of relationship, both those we enjoy and seek and those we don't.  EMC is offering both residential and commuter options for this practice period.  Go to: encinitasmindfulness.org for more information.

2018 Mindful All-Day Retreat - SATURDAY, APRIL 7

The growth and development of your mindfulness occurs through the continued deepening and sustaining of longer practice periods.  Sustaining practice for one or more days in extended practice periods shifts our attention and awareness inward to assist in accessing more continuous stillness and silence.  Retreat practice is time out from your daily responsibilities, allowing for a rich and beneficial opportunity for practice and its benefits.

Retreat is held at Questhaven Retreat Center in San Marcos, CA. 

Mindfulness graduates and friends are welcome to attend from 9:00am – 4:00 pm (Half day options also available upon registration)
$25.00 is a requested donation to cover the cost of the space.  Dana or offering for the teachings and the teacher are graciously accepted and always welcome.  There will be a basket for such offerings at the retreat site.  Thank you always for your kindness and generosity!
